Well, we did it! We managed to join our young married's small group in trekking out past Santa Barabara, to Los Prietos campgrounds and introduce Henry to the wonderful world of camping. I feel that due to the fact we went with our small group from church, they sort of braved the trip with us.
Our car was packed to the ceiling, leaving only enough room for the three of us to sit as we left our driveway in Santa Monica. We arrived at 5pm Friday night and set up camp. Despite the fact that there were lots of buggies, no running water except a small communal water spicket, and it was so hot (it literally did not cool down until about 4am Saturday morning) we had a great time. In fact it was so hot Friday night, Henry slept in only his diaper, even though mommy had packed lots of warm jammies in preparation for the bitter cold that camping nights tend to bring (hence part of the reason so much stuff!)
We spent Saturday at the River edge under a tree and Henry and mommy took a little dip in the water, then Daddy and Mommy gave Henry a bath in a large tupperware container to clean him and cool him off. It did col down that evening and Henry actually wore PJ's to bed this time. Henry slept from about 10:30pm-5:30am! He did great!
On Sunday, Henry was pretty mellow and just enjoyed the outdoors with mommy and the group as everyone played a silly game. Henry loved being held by Beth while mommy and daddy packed up to go home. He slept the whole ride home too.
Mommy and daddy will definitely take him camping again!
